Turning text into speech

  1. Choose Paste text instead above and paste or type your text.
  2. Press play. A blank line starts a new paragraph, which gets a slightly longer pause.
  3. Pick a voice and speed in the player, or save the result with Save audio.

Voices

There are 37 English voices: American and British voices, both female and male, and a set of character voices. They come from Gradium's open Phonon model, which runs on your device.

Speed

Choose from 0.75× to 2×. Speed changes keep the voice's natural pitch, so fast listening doesn't sound like a cartoon.

Private by design

Text-to-speech services usually send your text to a server. DocRead generates the speech in your browser instead, so confidential notes, drafts and documents stay on your device.
